BRP - 5/10 - 5/14

BRP – 5/14/21

Busy first week of the BRP. There has been a lot more destruction than building at this point. We began the work on #4,5,6,7. Landscapes Unlimited is stripping sod, pulling, and piling sand out of the bunkers. The sand in the fairways will be blended with the soil used to shape the new bunkers. The sand in the greenside bunkers will be piled to the side and re-purposed to top-dress the fairways. The areas being disrupted will appear to be very large, and much bigger than expected. Please do not be alarmed, the bunkers are not going to be that large. It is necessary to prep the areas around the new bunkers 2x,3x and 4x times larger than the actual bunker to make sure the surrounding areas tie in and transition properly.

The G&G department aerified the greens on May 10 & May 11. We used the small ¼ in quad tines or a 3 tine by 5 tine blocks of tines. This type of tine provides for minimal disruption to play but also displaces more surface area than a larger 1/2 or 5/8 single row of tine. We used approximately 75 tons of sand to top-dress the greens. To put it in perspective, 75 tons is the equivalent of 3 long dump trucks.

G&G department has also sprayed out the ryegrass from this past winter. The product used targets only the ryegrass and allows the Bermuda additional room to take over. The product will take about 6-8 weeks to fully remove the ryegrass providing a subtle transition. Transition is looking very promising at this point.

In addition, the G&G department has begun an in-house landscaping project. Our goal is to landscape many of the empty desert areas between the tees and fairways and/or any areas to the side or behind the holes. We will be planting about 18 acres of plants throughout the entire golf course. We will be using drought and heat-tolerant plants. All plants will be irrigated with drip for establishment purposes. Over the next couple of years as the plants mature and establish the irrigation will be weaned off and eventually turned off. The selected plants will be maintenance-friendly. In addition, we will use the plants to form a designated walk path from tee to tee and the fairways. We will also be adding a contrasting granite to create the path. The landscape is intended to help frame the entire hole as you view it from the tee and to also accent our new bunkers.

As the project progresses, we hope to arrange a guided tour (with cocktails) for the membership to view the progress. This is still in the works and there will be more details to follow.

For safety reasons, we respectfully ask that all members and homeowners refrain from walking, biking, jogging, etc…..on the golf course at all from 6 AM to 6 PM EVERYDAY
